The right company

Date of news/blog: 6th November 2023

With a father who used to design golf courses, Heather Treharne knew she had chosen the right company to work for with Dormy Care Communities.

Dormy is a golfing term meaning you can’t be beaten and it’s an ethos which runs throughout all four of our homes, including Foxhunters where Heather works as our Assistant Home Director

But helping our Home Director Leah with the day-to-day running of the home is not Heather’s only responsibility.

That’s because as a qualified mental health nurse with 25 years’ experience, she also oversees the work of our ten-strong nursing team at Foxhunters.

Heather was working in a secure mental hospital when she saw Foxhunters being built and this led to her having a chat with Dormy’s CEO Helen Davies-Parsons, who is also a qualified nurse.

“Helen explained why she chose the name Dormy and with my dad’s background in designing golf courses, that resonated with me,” explains Heather.

“I was so impressed with Helen’s passion for care and how prepared she is to roll up sleeves and help out at the homes.”

Heather became our Assistant Home Director in 2020 and she now splits her week between the two disciplines – nursing and management.

“I started as Nurse when Foxhunters opened, and it was clear from day one that I had made the right decision by coming to work here,” she says.

“I wear many hats and enjoy all of them, and I work in a lovely environment where it doesn’t feel like I am coming into work.”

Outside of work, Heather, who is married with three children, enjoys cooking and walking her “naughty Beagle dog.
