Long-serving members of staff
Date of news/blog: 21st January 2026We’re proud to have so many long-serving members of staff at Foxhunters, with Summer Thomas being a good example.
Summer worked in homecare and mental healthcare before she joined Foxhunters as a Care Assistant in 2020, so came to us with great sector experience.
“I love working at Foxhunters, it’s a very special place,” she says.
“It’s massively person-centred and it’s not about works for the home but for each resident.
“And it feels like it’s the residents’ home and we’re just here her to support them – there are not many other residential homes which are like that.”
Summer’s job as a Care Assistant at Foxhunters is a varied one and sometimes this means meeting some of the more unusual requests from our ladies and gentlemen.
“One of our ladies loves eating chocolate buttons so I took her out to the shop so see could stock up,” says Summer.
“Ultimately though it’s just about making sure they are happy and healthy.
“They really just become another part of the family in fact I spend more time with the ladies and gentlemen at Foxhunters than I do with my own family.”
Summer recently won the Gold award in the Excellence in Care category and admits to being “gobsmacked” when her name was read out.
“There are so many people at Foxhunters who are deserving of an award so to be even nominated was an honour,” she says.
“It meant so much to win that it’s hard to put into words.”
Summer is putting the money she won at the awards to good use.
“I am getting married in 2027, so it’s gone into the savings for that,” she says.
As well as her wedding preparations, Summer also enjoys walking with her partner and their two dogs in her spare time.
