The Puuurfect Companions in our Homes

Date of news/blog: 15th March 2023

Many of the ladies and gentlemen who live in our homes will have had pets at sometime during their lives, whether that’s a cat, dog, or even a goldfish.

There’s a reason we call dogs man’s best friend and why studies have shown that cats can lower stress and anxiety. Our furry friends have a positive impact on our lives, moods and general wellbeing, providing companionship and bringing us comfort and joy.

At our four homes, it would be lovely if we could have pets but it’s simply not practical, so we have the next best thing – a robotic pet.

In our case it’s robotic cats.

The cats are very lifelike. They purr and make different cat sounds, their ears twitch, they can move their legs and roll onto their backs – in fact pretty much everything a real cat can do just without the feeding and the need for a litter tray!

It means our ladies and gentlemen can enjoy the boost to mental health that a pet brings, without the energy that is required to look after one.

They are popular with all the residents, including those living with dementia, and they have also provided some comfort to people receiving end of life care.

They help to create calming effect, as well as helping to reduce anxiety and stress – two symptoms which are commonly associated with people living with dementia.

So, all in all, they are purrfect!
