Peggy’s story
Date of news/blog: 3rd November 2025For people who have always enjoyed an active life, it can sometimes be difficult to accept that the time has come to make the move to living in a care community.
That was the case when 94-year-old Peggy suffered a fall at home and it was clear she would not be able to return to the independent life she’d lived since being widowed some 30 years earlier.
“Mum had always said she didn’t ever want to go into a home,” said daughter Sally.
“However, it was clear needed round the clock support at hand and she couldn’t live alone anymore.”
Sally took her mum in a wheelchair to Brockington House to have a look round and after having a tour Peggy decided there was no need to look anywhere else.
“The place is amazing, like a five-star hotel with a lovely, homely feel,” said Sally. “Very soon after moving in mum said to me it was the right choice and that was so nice to hear.”
Peggy enjoyed the food at Brockington, the tranquil setting and the many organised activities and trips out. Sally believes it was also the human touch that helped made her mum’s final months so pleasant.
“In hospital everything was rush, rush. Whereas at Brockington all the staff are so lovely and take time to get to know residents, listen and chat with them,” said Sally. “Mum also really enjoyed the company of the other residents and made new friends.”
Peggy sadly passed away from old age on 30th August 2025, having spent nearly two years living at Brockington House. She was very active during her time in the home and enjoyed taking part in activities. She also featured in our two books, choosing her favourite recipe and musical memory.
“Mum was so happy there, she loved it,” said Sally.
“It was 100% the right decision for her to move to Brockington, I’m so pleased that she did.”
