The best things come to those who wait

Date of news/blog: 20th May 2026

They say the best things come to those who wait and that’s certainly been the case for new Glenburnie Lodge Care Community Home Director Emma Watson.

Emma used to drive past Glenburnie during its construction and after it opened and remembers thinking “I wish I could manage that.”

That wish came true in March 2026 when Emma became our Home Director and two months on, she says it’s all she had hoped it would be and more.

“It’s been great and I feel part of the family already,” she says.

A Registered Nurse of over 20 years, Emma spent the early part of her career working in the NHS and then nursing in the military before moving to residential care where she has spent the bulk of her time.

Over the years she has led teams in both England and Wales and is experienced in helping services make positive, lasting improvements.

Dementia care is a particular passion for Emma. She has completed additional dementia-focused training and is committed to person-centred care, getting to know each resident as an individual and working closely with families to support what matters most to them.

Emma came to do a mystery shop before her job interview with Dormy CEO Helen Davies-Parsons and says she was struck by her passion for the company and its homes.

“When you’ve been interviewed by someone that’s so passionate about what they do, it’s so tangible that you actually feel it and I knew at that moment that this was the right job for me,” Emma says.

“Glenburnie is a happy home and the staff are growing with it too, thinking outside the box and using their initiative to find new ways to enhance daily life for residents.

“I want Glenburnie Lodge to feel like a real home – warm, welcoming and kind, with dignity and respect at the heart of everything we do.”

One early standout experience for Emma was the recent recreation of a wedding at Glenburnie Lodge so one of our gentlemen, George, could see his granddaughter Emma get married.

“It was a beautiful day and a real privilege to be part of,” she adds.

“The care taken in the preparation and the way staff came together to make the day special was incredible.”

Outside of work, mum-of-two Emma enjoys spending time with her children, swimming, going to the gym and coaching an under-5s football team.
