Exceptional newcomer
Date of news/blog: 21st May 2026With five homes in the group, being named exceptional newcomer less than 12 months into your job as a Care Assistant is a fantastic achievement and it tells you everything you need to know about Chloe Bray.
Chloe joined Glenburnie Lodge in February 2025 and won the Gold award at the Dormy Awards in November 2025.
What’s even more remarkable is that this is Chloe’s first job in care, having previously trained as a Hairdresser.
After joining the team in February last year, she quickly found her feet in a role that asks for patience, attention to detail and, above all, warmth.
Chloe says a tutor spotted something in her that suited care work. “When I was in college, the teacher said I was really good with caring—looking after people,” she explains.
“I was really nervous at first but that feeling didn’t last and think I’ve really grown into it. It is an amazing job.”
Ask Chloe what she loves most about her job and she adds: “Interacting with the residents—definitely. They tell you their life stories and I love them all.”
Chloe’s impact at Glenburnie Lodge was recognised when she won the Gold award for Exceptional Newcomer at the 2025 Dormy Awards.
She says: “I was really shocked. For someone who’s not there for long, you would have thought they would have given it to someone with more experience, but it was an amazing feeling.
“It’s done wonders for my confidence knowing I am doing a good job.”
Chloe wasn’t able to attend the ceremony on the day because she was looking after her own grandparents, another reminder that her caring responsibilities don’t end when a shift does.
Just over year into her care career, Chloe is already thinking about development. She plans to start a QCF qualification, with the longer-term aim of progressing to a senior role and possibly beyond, with nursing an option.
Outside of work, Chloe enjoys walking her dog and seeing friends, while also supporting her grandparents.
