The benefits of pottery
Date of news/blog: 27th June 2025The benefits of pottery in a care home environment are well proven and this is why it is one of our regular activities, using air dry clay which is easy to handle and doesn’t require a kiln for firing.
The benefits to our ladies and gents are as follows:
- Pottery involves using hands and fingers, which helps improve dexterity and hand-eye coordination. For individuals with conditions like arthritis, working with clay can help maintain joint flexibility and strengthen fine motor skills.
- The process of shaping and moulding clay can be incredibly therapeutic, offering individuals a way to express emotions and creativity. This can lead to reduced anxiety and depression, promoting a sense of calm and mindfulness.
- Pottery sessions provide an excellent opportunity for social engagement, inviting individuals to bond over shared creative experiences.
As you can see from the photographs, our ladies and gents really enjoyed the session and are looking forward to the next one.
