Man’s best friend
Date of news/blog: 18th November 2025Tony Medley may not have his dog Fidget at Pine Martin Grange any longer but he still has many memories of man’s best friend in his room.
Tony’s wife Jenny is also at Pine Martin Grange and lives in a room on our Forget Me Not Floor, although the couple are still able to spend some quality time together.
Tony’s love of dogs come from spending most of his working life as a Gamekeeper.
He has owned ten Labradors in his life which acted as gundogs and of course pets, and it meant Tony could indulge his love of the countryside and working outdoors.
He also did a course on writing and photography which led to his articles and pictures appearing in various countryside and farming magazines.
Tony met Jenny in a pub. He was working as a farm manager at the time and went to visit a friend’s pub in Leighton Buzzard.

He recalls: “There were eight girls standing at the bar and Jenny was one of them and we got talking.
“We gradually became friends and ended up getting married and have been happy together ever since.”
Tony and Jenny have two children, Jo and Sally, both of whom visit their parents regularly, with Jo taking him out every other day.
In between visits and trips, Tony enjoys his time in his room which is decorated with memories of his life, including photographs of Jenny, the dogs he has owned and even a game-keeping award he won.
“Fidget is a nice companion, and our room overlooks the courtyard so we can easily pop outside when we want,” he says.
“I have a motorised buggy which is jolly good and I am pleased to say I haven’t crashed it yet!”
