A strong sense of wellbeing
Date of news/blog: 19th June 2026Personal Trainer Demi-Louise Brown brings energy, encouragement and a strong sense of wellbeing to daily life at Glenburnie Lodge, where she helps our ladies and gentlemen stay active, mobile and engaged.
Demi joined Glenburnie Lodge in April 2025, stepping into a brand-new role as the home’s Personal Trainer. Before moving into care, she spent six years self-employed in a gym and built her career around a longstanding passion for health and fitness.
“I’ve always liked health and fitness and after having a break to have my children, this felt like a natural next step,” she says.
At Glenburnie Lodge, Demi’s focus is on the overall wellbeing of our ladies and gentlemen. Her work includes group activities, one-to-one support and tailored exercise plans designed to help people maintain strength, mobility and confidence.
“It’s all about keeping them as active and mobile so they’re not just in their rooms or isolated,” she explains.
Like any new idea, introducing personal training into a care home took time. Demi says some ladies and gentlemen were hesitant at first as they got to know her and understand the purpose of the role. Over time, that changed. Now, when she returns after a day off, they often ask when she is coming back or when they can exercise again.
No two days are quite the same. Some ladies and gentlemen attend gentle group sessions, while others work with Demi on more individual programmes, including exercises that support recovery after illness, injury or operations.
Demi adds: “It’s definitely having an impact because when the ladies and gentlemen go to appointments they come back and tell me their specialists can see that they’ve been exercising, which is great to hear.”
Although this was Demi’s first role in a care home, it was not an unfamiliar environment. She had previously worked with older people, and personal experience also gave her insight into care settings. Her grandmother had lived in a care home, so the environment already felt familiar.
Demi says she was very impressed when she first stepped foot in Glenburnie Lodge, describing it as “very bougie”, which means posh!
“My grandmother would have loved it here,” she jokes.
Outside work, Demi is just as busy. She enjoys spending time “running around” after her two children, reading and making time for the gym herself.
